CPB Contractors has achieved a key project milestone on Transport for NSW’s M12 West Motorway project, successfully installing all 84 bridge girders for its Bridge 5.
Stretching across Badgerys Creek and standing seven meters above a waterway, with twin 180m long bridges, Bridge 5 will provide future motorists with dual carriageway motorway access and a dedicated shared user path for pedestrians and cyclists.
CPB Contractors Project Director Nick Fryday explains that substantial engineering expertise went into reaching this project milestone.
“The installation of 84 girders was an impressive feat… with each girder weighing 57 tonnes. Our team navigated installing these in diverse terrain using both a 650-tonne mobile crane and a 600-tonne crawler crane equipped with outriggers”, said Nick Fryday.
The installation of Bridge 5 also incorporated a significant quantity of other materials, including 168 precast parapets and 25 columns.
CPB Contractors is delivering the M12 Motorway West package in a joint venture. The delivery of this project includes the construction of a 6km dual carriageway motorway between The Northern Road, Luddenham, and 400 metres east of Badgerys Creek, along with the construction of 11 bridges and a grade-separated interchange connected with the Western Sydney International Airport.
