Sandberg Development to Build New U.S. Headquarters and Advanced Manufacturing Facility in Prince William County
Sandberg Development Inc., a Swedish investment company with a growing presence in the United States, has announced plans to build a new U.S. headquarters and advanced manufacturing facility in Innovation Park, Prince William County, Virginia. The new development represents a significant investment in the region and highlights the company’s continued expansion across the North American market.
The new corporate headquarters will be developed in two phases over the next four years and will include an 87,565-square-foot modern facility, with plans for a future 48,330-square-foot expansion. Located at 9349 Hornbaker Road, the new building will occupy a prominent site at the entrance of Innovation Park, directly across from the FBI’s Northern Virginia Resident Agency.
The project is expected to bring approximately $43 million in capital investment to Prince William County while creating 32 new high-quality jobs with an average annual wage of around $118,000. The facility will combine corporate offices, advanced manufacturing operations, robotics capabilities, and collaborative workplace environments designed to support future growth.
“Our United States headquarters will provide our North American businesses with a world class facility and serve as a landing point for additional portfolio companies expanding to the U.S. market,” said Matthew Casciano, President of Sandberg Development Inc. “We are excited to build a four-story, Scandinavian-inspired office space with energy-efficient materials that will house advanced manufacturing, robotics, and collaborative workspaces for our employees. This project demonstrates our group’s commitment to the U.S. market and we truly appreciate all the support received from Prince William County.”
Founded in 1959, Sandberg Development has established a strong presence in Prince William County through four U.S.-based companies operating across multiple industries. Together, these businesses generate approximately $100 million in U.S. sales and contribute to sectors including defense technology, optics, virtual reality training, and advanced equipment solutions.
Several of Sandberg Development’s companies provide specialized products and services to government agencies, the U.S. military, and law enforcement organizations. These include advanced virtual reality training solutions, optical technologies, and weapons sighting systems used by federal agencies, military personnel, and local police departments, including the Prince William County Police.
The new headquarters will also support the consolidation and expansion of some of Sandberg Development’s existing operations. One of the companies moving into the new facility will be Aimpoint, a globally recognized manufacturer of red dot sighting systems. Sandberg Development has owned Aimpoint since the company was founded in 1975, and Aimpoint established its U.S. headquarters in Prince William County in 2016.
The Prince William Board of County Supervisors (BOCS) approved a $1.6 million Economic Development Opportunity Fund (EDOF) grant to support the project. The board also approved an agreement to sell Sandberg Development approximately 11.06 acres of county-owned property located between Hornbaker Road and Prince William County Parkway (Route 234).
Local officials highlighted the project as an example of the county’s ability to attract international investment and support innovative businesses.
“We are excited to encourage and celebrate international interest in our growing Nexus234 Innovation District,” said Deshundra Jefferson, Chair-at-Large of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors. “Supporting Sandberg Development’s expansion with an EDOF grant is one way Prince William County can showcase our business-friendly climate and our growing opportunity landscape on a global scale.”
The new facility is expected to strengthen the region’s position as a hub for innovation, technology, and advanced manufacturing. By bringing together office operations, research capabilities, robotics, and production activities under one location, Sandberg Development aims to create a more connected and efficient platform for its U.S. businesses.
Brentsville District Supervisor Tom Gordy also praised Sandberg Development’s long-term impact and innovation journey.
“Sandberg Development represents what can happen when we foster innovation in business,” said Gordy. “To think what began as a Swedish hunter’s idea for improved accuracy turned into Aimpoint, renowned and trusted by military, law enforcement, and outdoor professionals all over the world.”
The headquarters project reflects Sandberg Development’s broader strategy to expand its global portfolio while strengthening its commitment to the U.S. market. The Scandinavian-inspired design, energy-efficient materials, and advanced manufacturing features will create a future-focused workplace that supports innovation and collaboration.
With construction planned in phases, the new Prince William County headquarters is expected to become a key location for Sandberg Development’s North American operations, providing a foundation for future company growth and additional investment opportunities in the region.
