Granite Announces Bridge Replacement Projects on Historic Route 66

Granite (NYSE: GVA) has been awarded a $24 million contract by San Bernardino County to replace aging bridges along the historic Route 66 in Amboy, California. The project, funded through a combination of state and federal sources, will be reflected in Granite’s third-quarter capital plan.

The bridges targeted for replacement no longer meet modern load-bearing standards and are unable to safely accommodate today’s traffic volumes and weights. The affected section of Route 66 is a crucial corridor connecting 29 Palms to Las Vegas and provides essential access to the Mojave National Preserve. Granite’s upgrades will improve safety, reliability, and long-term resilience for travelers and visitors along this iconic route.

“Granite has a long history of enhancing infrastructure in the High Desert,” said Bill Moore, Vice President of Regional Operations. “This project strengthens a key transportation corridor while reinforcing our commitment to the communities we serve.”

Granite’s work in the High Desert continues to expand, with the company currently constructing the John Wilkie Safety Roadside Rest Area for Caltrans and maintaining active engagement with private clients and regional agencies. This bridge replacement project adds to Granite’s growing portfolio and follows a successful partnership with San Bernardino County.

Supporting the project locally, Granite’s Desert Cities asphalt plant will supply 3,400 tons of hot mix asphalt. Construction is slated to begin in December 2025 and is expected to be completed by April 2027.
